Lost caverns
Lost caverns are a phenomenon that occurs when land is claimed for the purpose of building above ground, with the unintended consequence being that all space below the claimed area is rendered unusable by other players. Lost caverns can be found all around the map, but are most noticeable under towns. Lost caverns are not to be confused with private mines, cave systems claimed with the intention of keeping an area's resources and points of interest to an individual player's use. Players encountering lost caverns, due to the inability to mine blocks, will find all resources within the area unobtainable, and in some cases entire areas inaccessible. It is due to the large masses of claimed areas in and around Spawn Town, and other major towns, that encourages players to travel far from claimed areas for resource gathering.
