Ranks

From FroobWorld Wiki

A player's rank, also known as a group or role, is their position within the server's hierarchy that determines their permissions and responsibilities. There are currently six ranks, three of which are determined by length of stay on the server.

Current ranks

Newbie

All new players begin as a Newbie. Players with this rank will have access to all the basic commands and are only able to set a single home. Newbies have grey names in the chat.

Loyalist

Players are promoted to Loyalist after one week of playing on the server. Loyalists are able to set two homes but are otherwise identical to Newbies. Loyalists have lime green names in chat. The name and colour of this rank was borrowed from OmniaMC, a server froobynooby used to play on.

Veteran

Players are promoted to Veteran after one month of playing on the server. Veterans are able to set three homes but are otherwise identical to Loyalists. Veterans have dark green names in chat.

Trusted

The Trusted rank (formerly known as Veteran+) is the first level of staff on the server. Players become eligible for Trusted after two months of playing on the server, however must be selected for the role. Players in the role have blue names in chat.

Trusted players have responsibility for moderating the server's chat and alerting staff to any troublesome players. Users in the role have the ability to temporarily mute players if they are abusing chat.

Staff

The Staff rank is responsible for moderating the server. In order to be eligible for Staff a player must have been playing on the server for at least six months and be in the Trusted role. Staff have cyan names in chat.

Staff are responsible for ensuring people follow the rules and handing out punishments as appropriate for rule breaking behaviour. They have the ability to check block logs, manage claim requests and ban players.

Admin

Admins are the highest ranking staff members and are responsible for the operations of the server. This includes deciding on server features and the future direction of the server. Admins have red names in chat.

In order to be eligible for Admin a player must have played on the server for at least three years and be Staff.

Retired ranks

Janitor

Janitors were responsible for cleaning messes (half cut down trees, 1x1 towers, dug up beaches, etc). The rank was initially implemented in 2012, with inspiration coming from bootswithdefer's minecraft server which froobynooby played on in 2010. Janitors were able to spawn up to 32 blocks of stone and 32 blocks of grass at a time to assist them with their duties. The rank was discontinued later in 2012. Janitors had teal names in chat.

In 2019 the role was revived with a new mess reporting system, as detailed in this forum post. The revival was not overly successful, with most players signing up for a different name colour, which resulted in the name colour being removed. The rank and mess reporting system were quietly retired in 2022.

Temp Admin

The Temp Admin rank was created in 2014 to give selected staff members temporary Admin powers while froobynooby and TheChief13 were away (the only admins at the time). While the name and purpose of the rank suggests it was only granted temporarily, in practice those given the role retained it on a permanent basis. The rank was retired quietly in 2022. Temp Admins had teal names in chat.

Senior

The Senior rank existed in 2012 as a level above Veteran, for players who had been on the server for at least two months. Seniors were able to instantly teleport to other players - a power that caused much annoyance to some. Some time later the rank was retired. Seniors had blue names in chat.

VIP

The VIP rank existed in a similar capacity to Trusted, with players having some basic moderation tools (kick and mute). The rank was given to players who were trusted by the staff team. Later on the rank was repurposed as a rank for former admins, before being dropped some time later.
